Which of the current bottom five teams in the league would benefit the most from Bedard?

As time goes on, it seems increasingly obvious that the teams below are all going to be in on the Bedard sweepstakes. Now of course, this isn’t determined at this point in time, the Senators could go on a forty game win streak or the Coyotes could magically get a new arena, although I don’t think stranger things have happened. For the sake of argument, here are the teams we are going to discuss.

Ottawa Senators:

The Ottawa Senators are a confusing team at the moment. They had such a good off-season, managing to sign Giroux and solidifying their forward core, but they haven’t managed to do as well as anyone thought they would I don’t think. Their struggle seems to be defensively rather than offensively making Bedard not necessarily the piece they need to solve all their problems, unless they’re hoping that they can outscore their problems. In the draft I think they would be better drafting a defenceman rather than a forward making them one of these teams that would not benefit as much from Bedard.

Arizona Coyotes:

The Coyotes are somehow exceeding expectations this season having actually won more than one game and not being at the bottom of the standings. However, they still have massive problems that they need to address before being able to start even thinking about contending again, and no, before anyone says anything, the arena is only one of their problems. Having been out of a playoff position for a number of years their prospect pool is decent – Cooley, Geekie and Guenther look to be great players and should be great assets in a few years. Obviously having all the prospects in the world isn’t going to make them instantly better but Bedard gives them that scoring edge that a lot of teams want. Getting Bedard would be great for the franchise, even if he doesn’t play for them for a few years, making them one of the teams that would benefit by drafting him.

Columbus Blue Jackets:

The Blue Jackets have had a rather unexpected start this season having not won as many games as anyone thought they would considering they signed Gaudreau this offseason, re-signing Laine and having more of their prospects playing this year. So where does the problem lie? Well, the defence isn’t amazing, especially with the loss of Werenski last week, and their goaltending could be a lot better, but will Bedard fix those problems? Their prospects on defence are pretty good, so I think Bedard would help them a lot and would fit in quite nicely.

Vancouver Canucks:

The question of ‘What the hell are the Canucks doing?’ seems to be floating around a lot of people’s heads at the moment with no apparent answer apart from ‘we might be re-tooling, we might be re-building, who knows, we are in a permanent state of flux’. Their prospect pool is weak and they don’t have a lot of valuable assets so going for Bedard might be a good idea, especially because he’s from Vancouver so would be very happy to be there. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Canucks turn into over the next few years, but adding Bedard to the mix would make them better and more interesting to watch.

Anaheim Ducks:

Anything will help them at this point. I don’t think they have won a game in regulation yet, which is kind of funny. They have some good prospects for both forward and defence but having Bedard as well will make it so much easier to get back to playoff contention. Imagine Zegras, Bedard and McTavish on the same line, would be incredible to watch.
